Mtx - Mototrax, ISO PSP PPSSPP (70 MB)

Because it shares its name with a two-year-old, very average motocross game, you'd think MTX Mototrax would aim for mediocrity at best on the PlayStation Portable. You'd be incorrect, because MTX Mototrax for the PSP is a terrific, solid game with a lot to offer motocross aficionados and racing lovers in general. If you're expecting it to go beyond two wheels, a lot of dirt, and just as much huge air, you'll be disappointed. What you'll discover is a hard and surprisingly pleasant game, especially considering the asking price of $30.

MotorStorm - Arctic Edge, ISO PSP PPSSPP (400 MB)

The game shifts away from the desert surroundings of the first title and the lush island environments of the sequel to the severe Arctic climate of Alaska on the outskirts of the Arctic Circle. Nitrous Boosts, environmental dangers, and destructible surroundings are all included, like in prior entries in the series. Vehicles may reduce boost by driving over heavy snow or behind waterfalls, a strategy similar to driving through water in MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Unlike previous editions in the series, the game only allows ten competitors in each race. [2]

Midnight Club - LA Remix, ISO PSP PPSSPP High Compress (237Mb)

Faster races and shorter load times have been added to Midnight Club: L.A. Remix to make it playable on handheld devices. Utilize body modifications, paint schemes, rims, and vinyls to give your vehicle a unique look that will terrify the competitors. The results of collisions and smashes are depicted using realistic damage modeling. As you rush to the beat of an all-star soundtrack with heart-pounding melodies, see Los Angeles in amazing realism. In this transportable racing powerhouse, take charge and conquer the streets.

Juiced's style of driving is more a kind to the trafficless, cordoned-off track driving of something like a Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo game than the frenetic driving found in any of the Midnight Club or Need for Speed Underground games, where you'd find yourself dodging traffic while trying to outwit the city's top street racers. However, the game's roster of cars is made up almost exclusively of the kind of tuner rides you'd find in those games, and the driving is very much an arcade brand of racing, rather than anything realistic. And therein lies the problem. The game tries to throw you into a fast and loose style of driving in an overly controlled and generally bland track style. The few instances of realism in the driving mechanics also rob it of some of its thrill, as you'll have to carefully plot your turns so as to not wipe out; and bumping up against other cars has a negative impact in multiple sections of the game, removing that kind of visceral thrill from the picture. The races don't have a great sense of speed, so even when you're busting out with your nitrous tank to blast past the competition, it comes off as pretty underwhelming. What you're ultimately left with is a driving model that's off-kilter and generally not very exciting.

Car Jack Streets PSP PPSSPP

f you read the name "Car Jack Streets" and think "Grand Theft Auto," you're exactly right. This is an ambitious, if not wholly original, clone of the popular sandbox car-stealing design by Rockstar, shrunken down to portable size and made into a digital download. Fans of last year's incredibly well-realized DS debut for that series, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, could easily find their next fix here courtesy of "cover band" developer Tag Games.

Car Jack Streets places you in the role of Randal, a small-time criminal with a big-time debt -- he owes over a million dollars to a local mob boss and will be hunted down and killed if he doesn't make timely payments of at least $50,000 per week to keep the hitmen's guns holstered. This is Car Jack's novel feature, though -- the "per week" is actually real-time, not some accelerated in-game clock. This game is intended to be played a little each day, as you turn on your DSi, play a couple of missions, earn a few thousand and keep on target to hit the $50,000 mark every seven real-world days. It's an inventive idea, and one perfectly suited to the pick-up-and-play strengths of the DSiWare format.

The gameplay is just as you'd expect from a GTA clone, most similar to the first Grand Theft Auto from 1997 or Chinatown Wars, in that everything's viewed from above. You shoot people up, steal cars, gamble and rock out to the radio while cruising around the decently-sized city, advancing through the storyline little by little. The control works well, the game looks great (with solid 3D effects), the sound is spot-on and it just gets the GTA vibe right all around.
